I read somewhere that a 4" exhaust is only good to 500HP. Can anyone confirm that? What about the down pipe restrictions? I know Flo Pro makes a 5" delete pipe and 5" back from the delete pipe but would a 5" really make a difference in HP over the 4" with the down pipe being smaller in diameter? Also has anyone else here ordered a Spartan Console and shipped to Canada? Mine seems to be taking a while and I am not sure how to contact Spartan for tracking #'s.

That claim doesn't hold weight as not only Matt's truck with 4" exhaust but others using just a 3.5" dpf delete pipe and the rest stock have been dyno'd at over 500 RWHP.
As for shipping to Canada, some seem to go straight through customs within a day while others take a week or so.....I have no clue why??

I read that if you go too big on down pipe size that you can cause more turbo lag. Not quite sure how that would have anything to do with it, but it was interesting. Going back to my old racing days, an engine is an air pump. it can only move so much volume, boosted or not. Same goes with a piece of tubing.

I believe I read this same article. The understanding I got was 5" was hurting performance on trucks under 500HP, but gave gains w/ trucks over 500HP vs. trucks with 500HP and the 4". It claimed not to use anything bigger than 4" below 500HP for best results.

what about a 4" delete pipe to a 5" back exhaust thats what i was thinking but maybe i shud just go to a 4" then again with the 275 tune id be up around 500 hp. what do you guys think?

I think you guys are thinkin too hard about it, Nutty confirmed in the above post that it really doesn't matter that much. Do whatever you feel is best for your truck.
My 5" was back-ordered when I first bought my setup. So I was running the 275 with delete pipe, with the factory tail 3.5. When my 5" finally came in a week later, I slapped it on there. I honestly couldn't feel any difference power wise, it just sounded better IMO. Its just preference!
Now I'm sure its possible that there could be 2, 3, or 8(maybe even more) ponies different, but you are not gonna feel 8 horse power by the time it hits the ground when the trucks are puttin down 500+. If there is even that much difference.

Wasn't thinking hard at all.... only stating what I read. I have 4" and don't plan on changin it for "optimum" performance. But to the guys that are upgrading from stock I would say get the 5" if your gonna run the 275tune.
And to answer the next post.... Stock the downpipe is 4", and the tail is 3.5" I believe.

Im pretty sure the down pipe is 4in, with a 3.5in inner wall to reduce sound

I didn't notice an inner wall but then again I wasn't lookin for it. I kinda remember Cobb tellin me it was 4".?. not 100%. But I do know the firewall is made of that "quiet steel" to help with the noise. Just an FYI.....:)

i do remember reading that elite put a true 4" downpipe on a truck they were working on, and the cab noise was much louder than before

Well had codes, P006B exhaust pressure correlation, P1000 OBD system readiness, P2263 Turbo/super charger boost performance, and P2563 turbo charger boodt control positioning sensor a range/performance.The thing is these codes came up even when I was running the 275 tune and the truck ran fine. I cleared the codes and tried to drive the truck and still like it was defueling.Tried to reload stock file and unknown vehicle(1) comes up.

I've thrown those codes before too and am curious to know what they are. As for defueling I would guess its trans slippage since the tune was just loaded but it could be fuel filters. The exhaust correlation code is no biggy, I've thrown that lots. Its just the pressure sensor in the exhaust. But I DO want to know what the supercharger/boost performance code is all about.
