I think it's a great idea having a quick release feature but leaving the suction cup only on the windshield and carrying the DD won't stop them from trying to get it. They'll see the suction cup and "think" it's still in the truck because very few people actually carry them on their persons. Most people put them in the glove box, center console, under the seat or in the trunk. When I had mine stolen it was the dang cord that gave it away and when the police arrived the officer said even the mark the suction cup leaves behind can make you a target.

For now mine sits in the box until I travel and when I do use it I'm not using the suction cup mount. I'm still looking for a mount I like and until I find one I like I keep my DD in the center cup holder at the bottom of the dash. I can still see it and it's easily removed with nothing left behind to give the hint I had something there.

I somewhat like the cup holder mount but I'm not sure how secure/tight it will be in the holder.

looks like theres a thumb wheel or something on the base, that might spread the part that goes into the cupholder wider to ensure a tight fit or its to turn the column the DD mounts to, cant really tell

A combo of the Stilleto and S50 mounts will give you a quick, non-bulky removable unit. Extreamly stable installed, no jiggle or vibration. Base can be used w/ 3m adhesive on pad or screwed to dash (as pictured). And makes for a nice clean install.

hotlicks,,,,, Can you do me/us a favor..... Can you take a picture of the unit once it's been removed so I/we can see what's left behind on the dash and the back of the DD??

I'm having a hard time with the thought of drilling a hole in the middle of the dash but I have no problem doing it on a replaceable piece. I was thinking about doing the same thing you did but doing it to the light switch housing. That's a $75 part and it takes about 2 minutes to replace and you'd never know anything was there.

Thanks,
Gerry

Just wanted to let you guys know that I got the quick release mount and it works great. Well worth the money, not having to undo that suction cup.

Ok, I think the best way to mount this other than on your windshield is on the ashtray as I did. It does make the ashtray usless but that was ok with me. I used the mount that came with the DD and removed the lever and sucker cup on the bottom. I then cut the mount off for the lever with side cutters which leaves a hole that a 3/8 carriage bolt fits in nicely. Take the cover off the ashtray and drill a hole for the bolt as far to the right as the mount will fit. Bolt the mount to the ashtray using the clear rubber gasket after you remove the center so it fits over the carriage bolt. Put the ashtray back in using a little black silicone around the edges without the DD installed and let it dry overnight. In the morning, install the DD to the mount. It works perfect and is at the correct angle but stll out of view. The DD can be removed very easily, and the cover snapped back over the ashtray to completely hide any evidence if need be.

Check this out. It has a quick release and works with a AMPS hole pattern.
