General Questions
Question: Do I need to return the vehicle to stock programming before changing tunes each time?
Answer: No. You’ll only need to return the vehicle to stock if you are planning on using the vehicle on public highways or taking the vehicle in for service; tunes can be changed from one tune to the other without returning to stock.
Question: Do I need to save my stock file first before installing a Spartan custom tune for the first time?
Answer: No. The stock calibration will be saved onto the SD card automatically before loading the custom tune. This file will be saved as a file titled with your VIN, with a .stk file extension. For example, “1FTSW21R58EC87321.stk”. We highly recommend saving this file to your PC from the SD card and/or emailing it to us to be stored in our archive, in the event the unit or SD card is damaged.
Question: Do you offer custom tuning for Superchips Flashpaq tuners, Edge Evolution, or SCT Livewire devices?
Answer: None of the above. We only offer custom tuning for our own Phalanx Flash Console for the 6.4L vehicles. We will likely offer SCT custom tuning for the 6.4 if and when the custom software is released for dealers from SCT. We do carry a full line of custom tuning for SCT in the 6.0 Powerstroke format.
Question: My 210HP tune seems to cut out or defuel between 60mph and 80mph on certain occasions. What is wrong?
Answer: This is how the tune is designed. Built-in safety parameters prevent the vehicle from exceeding 1400F* exhaust gas temperatures, and this tune produces enough power to reach this limit fairly quickly. You will feel the truck lose some power or “defuel/derate” when hitting this safety limit; this is a normal operating characteristic of the tune. If you are racing the vehicle at a track or participating in truck pulls, our 250HP “Nutty Professor” Race calibration will correct this issue.
Question: I took my vehicle in for service and they reflashed my truck. What do I need to do?
Answer: You will need to re-read your vehicle strategy and re-send that information to our calibrations department in the same manner as you did when setting up the first set of tunes. We offer one set of files after a reflash for free, there will be a charge for additional sets. If for some reason, you did not reflash your vehicle to stock before taking the truck in for service, and the reflash was performed with your tuner still installed in the truck- CONTACT US IMMEDIATELY. We strongly recommend removing ANY and ALL tuning and/or DPF delete components before taking the vehicle in for service work.
