Buddy of mine just had his oil cooler give up and the dealership hit him with a nasty $3500 estimate on a replacement.
I did a little reading around and it seems like it's not all that uncommon to have them go out. Anyone have some tips or maintenance type flushes to help make sure everything keeps flowing?

I actually sent them an email a few days ago asking about their aftermarket oil cooler for the 6.4. I got a response from someone named Gene Neal and he told me that they don't have one on the market just yet for the 6.4. Said he had a prototype on his truck but it wasn't for sale to the public yet. Maybe I was talking to the wrong guy lol.

i suppose they just have not released it yet for the 6.4l. i know a few good buddies that bought them for their 6.0ls and i just figured they had it for the 6.4l as i have been in their shop and saw some 6.4ls. i actually ended up going with the delete on my 6.0l. and as soon as the warranty runs out on my 6.4l, ought to be next year, i will delete that too.

You can delete the oil cooler without causing your oil to overheat?

oh yes! the whole reason for the cooler is because the exhaust gas heats everything up so much, and heat as we know is bad. so if you delete the egr, there is no need for the coolant to cool the exhaust gas, which prevents that coolant puking. your engine will also run better/cleaner/longer since it is not having to breath its own soot, and the oil will not be contaminated as much nor as fast as with the egr intact. your truck may not pass emissions if you have that in your state, but here in the great state of arizona we do not worry too much about that kind of stuff.

I think you're talking about the EGR coolers which I know can be deleted. I was referring to the oil cooler. I'm pretty sure if you delete that you're going to run into some serious problems lol. Well if not replaced by an alternate oil cooling system. I think BPD sets up an air cooled system rather than coolant cooled, they just don't have a setup for the 6.4 released yet.

well the 6.0ls have heui injection, and so the extra oil cooling is important. but on 6.4ls there is not as much need for the oil cooler. besides, the truck does have a separate oil cooling system that is not the oilcooler that is on the egr side.
