I've done some reading and heard good things about both. My main question is which is best performance wise? Plus, I've also read that Spearco tends to block too much air from the radiator. Opinions and suggestions will be much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Spearco. Bigger, better, higher quality . I haul a 36ft gooseneck on race tunes with no temp issues. The whole blocking too much air idea was just speculation... Plus it add some bling to the front of the truck.

Don't rule out the AFE. Pretty much the same exact design as the Spearco and it's cheaper.
Does Spartan sell the AFE Jeff? What are you running?

I am running the stock intercooler for now. We are an AFE dealer, so we can order it for you.
Just a heads up, a new intercooler is about to make its way on to the market. It's by a company called No Limits. They are the company that makes this intake elbow/CAC pipe:
http://www.rudysdiesel.com/_e/Intercoolers_Accessories/product/NOLIMITIC/No_Limit_Intercooler_Pipe_Intake_Elbow.htm
Their new intercooler design is similar to the AFE and Spearco, but it is much stronger internally. It is designed to handle 100 psi of true boost pressure. I got a tip that it will be cheaper than all of the other intercoolers on the market as well. Anyone thinking about going to a larger intercooler may want to consider waiting until these are available through Rudy's Diesel and Elite Diesel.

Thanks for the heads up Jeff. Any idea on a release date?

It's on a 900 HP test truck at the moment handling 70+ psi of boost, so I would assume it won't be too much longer. LOL

Any updates on this new intercooler? I check Rudy's usually once every couple weeks to see if it's up but I haven't seen/heard anything about it.

Call them or Maryland Performance Diesel about it. Ask about the No Limit Fabrication intercooler and when it will be available. Be sure to specify that you are talking about the intercooler and not the intake elbow/CAC pipe.

I've had the banks on mine for a little over a year. No complaints, works great!

Just wanted to share an update. We now have several of the new AFE Bladerunner intercoolers in stock. These units are factory pressure tested to 200 PSI. The air flow is rated at 74% higher than stock. AFE also says that it will outflow the Banks intercooler by 25%. These are not yet listed on our website, but the price is $1,599.00, plus shipping.

I'll keep that in mind if I ever have an issue with the Banks. Thanks!!!

Just ordered one of the AFE Bladerunner intercoolers. Looks to be a really good product and the price was right. This seems to be a really simple swap but just wanted to ask if there's anything I should watch for.

Just curious, what made you go with the AFE over the No Limit? The No Limit is just as good of quality, can handle 100+ psi of true boost, and it's cheaper. Not prying, just wondering why you went with the more expensive piece....

Special circumstances made the AFE quite a bit cheaper than the No Limit. Pretty much the only reason.

Makes perfect sense. Good luck with it buddy and post up some pics/results when you have some experience with it.

Got her in. Install was super easy, fit was surprisingly spot on. Actually fits better with my aftermarket pipe than the stock. Posted a couple comparison pics. It's nearly twice the depth and probably 3-4x as heavy as the stock. Very stout. I haven't ran it yet to see the numbers difference so I'll post that up later.

Any feed back would be awesome... I plan on picking up an inner cooler in the next few weeks.
My big debate right now is Banks vs. AFE - banks is winning because my job might pay for it..

Definitely a great investment. So far I'm more than happy with the new intercooler. It almost makes me wonder if my stock one was partially plugged or something lol. Much quicker throttle response, a lot less black smoke on take off with just general in town driving.
Truck info is in my signature, ran these numbers to compare EGTs. I tried my best to duplicate the conditions as far as temp and driving conditions so these numbers should be pretty accurate showings. All taken on the same flat straight away roads after acceleration with cruise set. My speedo reads slow so the speeds might not be accurate so I just posted where the needle was for this comparison. Actual speed is probably +3 or 4 mph cause of my bigger tires.
Stock
Speed: 65
RPM:1800
Boost: 5.5
EGRT: 700-720
Stock
Speed: 75
RPM: 1950
Boost: 6.5-7
EGRT: 750-770
aFe
Speed: 65
RPM: 1800
Boost: 5.5
EGRT: 640-660
aFe
Speed: 75
RPM: 1950
Boost: 6.5-7
EGRT: 680-700
Once up to cruising speeds at 75-80 I never saw over 700 unless I was on an incline. Overall very happy with it. She definitely breathes better and runs cooler so I think it'll help with longevity and that's my goal. Hope these numbers help you guys!

I believe the aFe will outflow the banks by 25%. But hey if you get the Banks for free I'd probably go that route lol.

Yeah, we have a company account at Summit Racing, which if I can convince my boss that I 'need' it, they will get me it through there and hide it under the truck that we're having rebuilt
What's $1500 for an intercooler when we just bought a CAT C11 Long block at 26,000...
