How many members are interested in purchasing the Add-On GPS for the DashDaq??? Please post here. The more members we get to cheaper the price will be for everyone
This is what I sent DrewTech:
Ok guys, on your site you list the GPS unit for $200.00 as a separate feature. If I am purchasing a DashDaq with the GPS the price is $146.00 higher than just purchasing the DashDaq ($695 DD & GPS - $549 DD only = $146). There are many on the Spartan Diesel forum that have been asking me to see what price they could get the GPS for since we already have the DashDaq as the platform used to load our tunes. There are currently over 400 members that already own a DashDaq. Are they (I already have mine, BETA tester) going to have to pay $200 for the GPS add-on, even tho you are selling the GPS for $146.00 to a new customer if they purchase a DashDaq? Thanks for your time.
Here is the reply I received

Subject: RE: DashDaq GPS
How many do you think are interested? Maybe we could work something out if you can give me an idea of how many are onboard with the upgrade.
The reason it cost more separately is because it’s more work and support to get an existing customer up and running with navigation than to just ship it as a complete kit with all of the licenses installed.
Thanks,
Brian
There are already 3 interested, Black06, PSD64Liter40, & Nutty.

Had I not went with an indash GPS unit...I would get it...still its a good price for $150-200 for a GPS though.

I have factory nav but it has to be updated with purchase of new dvd's. Fairly expensive. Would DashDaq require costly updates or are they included? If so, I'd definately be interested.

Is it a true nav or just a glorified compass?
If a nav.. who's updates for streets/highways do we purchase?

I also have the factory nav unit, but I got one anyway. This way I can still have a GPS with any vehicle I drive. As far as the updates, you would have to purchase an additional sd card with the new maps installed on it. I will get in touch with DrewTech and see how updates will be made and the prices. gahanna-6.4 This is a full GPS, talks with directions just like a factory nav unit. Displays speed while driving, and you can mark waypoints with it. I figure that if we can't get at least 25 interested, then the price will stay the same, $200.00.

It's been out for some time now, but was hoping to get more interested in it. I'll get in touch with DrewTech after the first of the year to see if they will lower the price. Don't think we will see much of a discount due to the fact that we could not get many members willing to purchase it. We will see...

I'm in as well as soon as they have maps available for Canada. How do these units know direction when driving?? I have the FX4 model truck and was not able to get the compass option and am wondering how the DD knows which way it is heading??
Thanks

ThanksTriangulation based from at least 3 GPS satellites. GPS doesnt really know your direction when you're stopped, unless your unit has a true compass in it. But it does know your direction based upon the direction you moved. For example, if you were heading North and stopped, removed the gps from its mount and rotated it 180 degrees it would still say you're headed North... until you move a few feet in another direction, then using triangulation, it would figure your new direction.

Hrm.. well Thanks for trying Mick. At $200.00 I'm not going to put it into adding GPS for the DD when I can get a factory refurbished fully warranted Garmin Nuvi 750 for $229.00.

I'm willing to part with mine for $140 (US) version, as I'm planning to upgrade to the (CDN/US) version as I live in a border town. Drewtech is hip to the idea and will only require the new owner's serial # to make this happen. PM me if interested.
I have to say that intergrating into the DD unit is far nicer than having two (2) separate device on the dash. Keep in mind that you view either the "gages", or "GPS" at one time.

Ok guys, got a response from DrewTech. Still not sure what the final price will be, but this is what they had to say:
Mick,
I will work out a one-time discount offer for the members of your group. Give me a few days to come up with pricing for you.
Thanks,
Brian

DrewTech sent me an email today about the GPS add-on. It is still in the works, and we are trying to figure out the final details of the sale, to include price and how they are to be ordered. They may all have to be phone in orders where you would have to tell them that you are a member of the Spartan form. This will be a one time offer when it does become available. I suggested that a cutoff date be established, and all orders after that date will be at the original DrewTech price of $200.00.
For now I can only tell you that the price looks like it will be a lot better than the $200.00 current price.
I ask that you do not post the details of the sale on other forums. If you wish to provide a link to it that would be ok. Once the sale has ended, I will delete this post and the one with the actual details....
If you would like to pm me your Name, and email address I will send an email to everyone in my address book that is linked to Spartan with all the details..

This has been a long drawn out process, but looks like it will finally happen. Got another reply from DrewTech today. I did deleted the price since they do not want it put out on the internet. This is an excellent price, better than I expected. Remember, this will be a one time deal only. If I have helped you in the past and have your email address on my home computer I will send you an email as soon as I have the info, plus I will post it here. Here's what they had to say.
Mick,
Sorry for the delay, I haven't forgotten about you. I will either get you a coupon code to our shopping cart or setup a separate link that allows them to be purchased for $???. Hopefully I can get this setup sometime early next week.
Thanks,
mick1955

DrewTech finally came through!!!!!
Your going to be very happy with this price. They have requested that the price and the link that they provided to purchase the GPS not be posted on any forums, so please don't screw me, or DrewTech over. If you know someone that has Spartan and not a member of the forum, just provide them a link to this post.
They have done a lot of work to get this setup, also a special price for all of us, so it would be great if some of you could thank Brian for everything he's done to get this approved. You can find him at the following locations:
http://www.dashdaq.com/forum/
or
http://www.dashdaq.com/
You will need to send me your email address, and then I'll send you the link, and the price. I already have many addresses in my home computer, and will be sending everyone some info to see if they want to purchase it. Don't send me a pm, as I have to empty my folder just about every day. Here's my email address:
marynmickusaf@valornet.com
This special pricing will expire at the end of this month, no exceptions.
You will have to provide your DashDaq serial number when you purchase the GPS. Also, after you get the GPS, you will have to update your firmware again. DrewTech will put the serial number of your DashDaq on their server, so when you reinstall the firmware it will see that your serial number is allowed to operate the GPS. If you have any problems getting it to pickup the GPS, just call, email, of send me a pm.
Hope we do have a good number of people who purchase this, especially since they went through all the trouble to get it setup.. Have fun!!

Is it me or dose anyone ells think that $200 is to much for this add on.. You can get a whole new GPS unit for $130 at Wal-mart. there most expensive one there is $200. With this one all you are paying for is the software not any of the hardware. or is this DashDaq one just that much better?

We had a group buy that Mick setup for $140 during the month of April... Yes, you can find cheaper units but I would prefer to have less clutter on my dash.

i agree with big island boy i just bought it to keep my dash unclutterd, the only thing bad is you have to switch back and forth between the gauges and the gps if your towing and you dont know where you are going but even that isnt a big deal

I know what you mean. I haven't much time to play around with it much but it would be nice if the gps could be scrolled to like the different gauge templates or added to to one for that matter. Or so at least you could hear the turn by turn directions in the background while monitoring your gauges would nice.
