Is it common when towing that the engine oil and coolant temps hang around 200 to 210? I have my DD set with the high limits which is pretty close to what i have been running. I just want to make sure I am in the safe range.

Hey man as long as you keep your water under 225 you will be fine and as long as you are runnin good oil in it dont worry about the temp it wont break down just remember to let your truck cool at idle for a longer period of time when you have had your foot in it or under a load .

Sounds about right. Pulling 12,000 lbs this past weekend over 300 miles - EOT was 202-208, ECT 200 - 204.

When you tow up any real grades with a pretty big load 200 is nothing really. In fact I think the factory settings while towing can go over 200. In the config file it says the following>>>TFT – Transmission Fluid Temp
High Limit 275
High Warning 220
I have seen as high as 230. Did I screw up my truck's transmission? The fluid doesn't smell or look burnt for having a hair over 40k on it(most of which is towing) At 230, the truck was defueling and continued to climb to 234 before it started to drop back down, as was I off of the mountain.

Ya, thats way too hot. Well I think the temp sensor is in the return line from the cooler. Clutch materials and steels are not happy over 200 degrees fluid temp for very long periods of time. The facings start to harden due to prolonged heat, hardening = slippage. Check out a few clutch/steels manufacturers sites and they'll pretty much all tell you anything over 200 degrees fluid for very long and they're gonna get brittle.

Gahanna - you know they just replaced my transmission last week. I was wondering how high the tranny should be set. Two weeks ago when my tranny went out - the temps were around 210 degrees.
I will not worry about the EOT as much any more. I run all syn oil with lucas oil treatment. I figure the fan will cut on when the water gets around 215.
I will keep an eye ont he TFT. I am going to FLA next week with the fifth wheel, we will see what happens. I hope FORD doesn't have to come and get it again.

You're fine. My highway oil is around 199 and coolant around 196, city a little higher, and when WOT a few times in a row, oil gets up to around 207, coolant around 206. I towed with the 310 once so far, but it was raining and dark, so no "testing" took place.

I towed an extenda boom forklift last month and lost some plumbing @ 40 psi boost. Boost dropped to 10 psi and you could hear it whooshing out under the hood. Running the 210 tune with no updates for 14 months. Tranny temps not a prob as I have a stick, but I have to back down as the coolant gets hot when abusing truck in this manner.
